i’m a gardener for life, but i might actually like foraging most of all! ♡
easter weekend 2022
homegrown tulips and daffodils // i can’t always access deep feelings when i’m “supposed to,” like birthdays, anniversaries, and holy holidays. but this week this truth was undeniable, and Easter was a deep dive into the refreshing waters of contemplation and celebration : Jesus, the creator and sustainer of all things (colossians 1:15-17, hebrews 1:1-3, john 1:1-3) stepped down into our reality. the “author of life” (acts 3:15) gave up His life to bring us back into fellowship with the Father. Jesus brings us back to the garden with God! 💐
bringing the outdoors in
in all seasons! really, it’s so fun to challenge yourself to make something pretty out of whatever materials are available… 😆 same foliage, two ways :
fall forage
hazelnut “roses”, hops, asparagus fronds
late season leftovers
i keep thinking the garden’s done for the season, but i still have dahlias, lisianthus, stock, amaranth, celosia, and that sweet little cherry caramel phlox! 😍 (i made this for perry’s birthday party this past tuesday 🎈)
autumn dahlias
the rest of the garden is headed to bed, a few seedlings begging to be tucked in for overwintering. meanwhile, the dahlias bloom on in fiery autumn splendor. and the flower sisters, poppy & glad, paint nails in flaming colors.
summer bounty
various arrangements from the summer, a mix of casual & formal. most of these i made in a weekend for my friend leah’s 40th birthday/20th wedding anniversary party. josh took the kids away to chicago for the weekend so i could prep for the homeschool year. floristry was my every-two-hour-ish creative break after each period of intense mental focus of planning 😆. it was a good challenge to be quick and decisive which is not the norm for me. i also learned : having a wide variety of vases at hand is key!
treasure in a clay pot
we haven’t built our farm stand yet, so this year i’m just practicing floristry with all these gorgeous blooms! i’ve been “working” on this off & on over the past few days—really just having fun! i think i like it now, so i’m going to go ahead and call it done! // pictured : lisianthus, sweet alyssum, stock, nigella, snapdragon, viola, phlox, pokeweed, zinnia, cosmos, echinacea, tobacco, blackberry, hydrangea.
a little morning arrangement
lisianthus, bells of ireland, mignonette, snapdragon, love-in-a-mist, flowering tobacco, queen anne’s lace, silene, hops.
green + white in a pewter cup
new to floristry?
start here for instant success : any random blooms look stunning in a flower + candle holder ❤️
wreath-making with nana
my mom was in town for the holidays, so we foraged some pretty bits from our land & made wreaths ♡.
